"Coming Back" where the trio begins
Classical guitar, piano, bass. Our first piece, recorded in my living room

"Coming Back" is an original piece composed by Stefano Vivaldini, and it sounds like nothing I've ever played before. Classical roots, jazz harmonies, Mediterranean colours, all tangled together in a way that only makes sense when you stop trying to separate them. We recorded it in my living room with Cristian Alberti on piano and Stefano on bass, and for the first time in my life I played the entire thing standing up. I wasn't sure how it would feel. I'd spent twenty years sitting down with a guitar on my leg, and suddenly my whole body was part of the instrument. My weight shifted with the phrases. My breathing changed. I moved in ways I never would have allowed myself before. And the music responded to all of it. Playing "Coming Back" standing up didn't just change how I performed the piece. It changed how I heard it.
If you're wondering how I got here, it started with a drill, a lot of courage, and a question I couldn't stop asking myself: what happens when you let the guitar move with you instead of sitting still? The full story is in the video below, where I took the leap and actually modified my instrument. Fair warning: it's not for the faint of heart!!
With love,
Roberta
